The Circuit Court typically only hears family law matters when there is a divorce pending. When neither party has filed for divorce, issues such as child custody, child support and spousal support are generally heard by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.

The Arlington County Circuit Court currently has three sitting judges, and a number of retired judges. The Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court currently has two sitting judges.
